Day One Friday 14th Queenstown to Milford Sound

Day One Friday 14th Queenstown to Milford Sound
The day dawned cloudy and dull as we left Queenstown. Following the northern shores of Lake Wakatipu we crossed the rolling hills of Southland before turning west towards Fiord land.

Emerging from the Milford tunnel stunning views down the Cleddeau valley, the wetter conifer-broadleaf forest and glimpses of Fiordland's tallest peak (Mt. Tutoko) captured our gaze. Arriving at Piopiotahi (Milford Sound) we boarded the Oceanic Discoverer and were soon underway on our voyage of discovery.

Exploring Milford we enjoyed stunning views of Mitre Peak, Stirling Falls and Pembroke Glacier. We spent a pleasant night anchored at Anita Bay in the entrance to Milford Sound.

This was a early morning with our pickup at the hotel at 7:15 AM. The good new was we were the next to last pick up before starting the long bus trip to Milford Sound.
